First Quarter Meeting 2008 Report

Thank you to all those individuals  who came out last Sunday to the Outrigger Canoe Club for the first quarter Team Core Hawaii meeting.  It was nice to see new faces and returning smiles to the team. We would like to thank John Akana for sponsoring our club and fellow team member Mike Ako (O.C.C. Manager) for "taking care" of us. Another thank you goes out to Brent Imonen who provided us with sample products and triathlon/apparel were given away to those members who volunteered at upcoming events.

Gary Sato shared information on the 2nd Annual Meadow Gold  Keiki Triathlon coming up in May. Stay tuned for more information and if you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Darrin Sato (dasato@ksbe.edu) and he will forward your name over to Gary.

Gary was also our keynote speaker for the day, and he talked about his experience in triathlons and his races at Ironman Kona. Gary gave the audience helpful tips on how to stay motivated in training for long races and the importance of creating a proper "base" before doing a race. Not only is a healthy body important, but athletes must pay attention to maintaining a healthy mind while racing.

David Lum spoke on behalf of the Cambio cycling team and the upcoming Makaha Time Trial set for February 24, 2008. If you are interested in participating in the event or volunteering, please contact David at rhombus01@msn.com. Your support would be greatly appreciated to  ensure a safe and successful race.

Kelley Hupp was unable to attend the meeting, so Gay Murakami shared information about the Hale Koa Biathlon, set  for Saturday, March 8, 2008. Kelley would appreciate your help, so contact her at huppk@halekoa.com if you are interested in volunteering on race day. Plan on staying after the biathlon to help cheer on the keiki at the Hale Koa Keiki Biathlon. This is such a fun event to watch the enthusiasm and determination these keiki possess.

We encourage team member to show your support and represent Team Core Hawaii at these club sponsored events. On behalf of the Team Core Hawaii Management Team, we look forward to another exciting year. Train safe and stay tuned for more club news. Thank you to Gary Sato for sharing his passion of triathlons with us ,and encouraging us to keep on training even though our bodies might not want us to.
