Makaha Time Trials Results
Congratulations to all the racers who participated in the Makaha Time Trials on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Thank you to David and volunteers who put on a safe race despite what Mother Nature had in store that day. The race results can be found on the bottom of the post. Here is a message from David Lum:
Thanks to everyone who pitched in with the race we had this past Sunday! We had a great turnout and it looked like the weather was going to be alright until a Makaha tropical storm hit a little after 8:00 am as I was warming up. Within seconds we were in a natural disaster crisis mode scrambling for rain jackets, dry paper that we could write on, shutting down non essential electrical, wishing for more tents and hanging on to the ones we did have so that they didn't get blown away. Meanwhile, the racers kept lining up to the start line and the brave and heroic starting and finishing crew of Matt Acosta, Gordon Kamimura, Sara Sipes and Woody Lum were right with them in the pouring rain to see that the race continued on. Leila Tamashiro managed to keep the laptop dry enough to enter the racers times as I was relaying the data from the finish line crew. In all of the commotion one of the time sheets didn't get discovered until we were finished with the awards ceremony and as a result racers who placed and who's times we couldn't produce like Rachel Ross, Dave Lelong and our own Noel Coagas were out of the competition. It was so difficult for me to make the call on how we were going to proceed with the awards. Thankfully everyone was gracious and showed great sportsmanship about the whole situation. I'm so glad that Leila came to the rescue again by finding the missing times and that we now have everyone's race results. Mahalo again to everyone who raced and helped out!
