Aloha State Games Cycling Event Cancellation

Here is a message from David Lum regarding the cancellation of the Aloha State Games Cycling Event. I'm sure this was a tough decision for David to make and I admire him for taking into consideration the Hickam Cirterium in his decision. This was a noble gesture on David's part and we appreciate his commitment to the cycling community.

Sorry everyone,

After thinking hard about it last night, I've decided to cancel the Aloha State Games Cycling Event.  I talked to John Girmsey yesterday asking whether or not by canceling the ASG race we would help to increase the turnout for the Hickam Criterium because the races are only one week apart and some of the non-regular racers may have to choose between one or the other.  Of course John said not to cancel the ASG race and that both races should have no bearing on each other, but I feel that maybe it might because we are experiencing a low turnout as well.  Here are some other factors that affected my decision:

-I was late in getting my flyer out and info on the race seems slow in getting to the teams.

-It turns out that there are a lot of other events happening on the 15th. (runs, canoe races, family trips, and Father's Day activities) and many have indicated to me that they cannot make it to the race on that day.

-There also have been some comments about people being bothered about the ASG race not being a USCF event and although we have full insurance coverage, I don't want to hassle with those who expressed boycotting the race.

Please express my apologies to your team members for any inconvenience canceling the race may have caused.  We'll be reimbursing those who have already paid for the ASG games.  Thanks to everyone who has been supportive of the Aloha State Games races.  Let's get everyone out to the Hickam Criteriium!

-David
